Gospel Opportunity
In Galatians 6:7, we have a prudential maxim, a commonsense proverb reflecting truth that God has sovereignly programed into the universe. We are talking about the law of sowing and reaping: “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”
We are overly familiar with the negative aspects of this indisputable law. The wisdom literature of the Old Testament is teeming with such teaching. If we sow to our own flesh, we will from the flesh reap corruption. No one can outrun or outwit the laws God has established to govern His universe.
The point of our text however is largely positive. If we sow to the Spirit, we will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Therefore, we are admonished to persevere in doing good works. We will reap in due season because the law of sowing and reaping works for good too. This is a great reason to keep on doing good when we have the opportunity to do so.
