The Case for Civil Disobedience

Jan 18, 2026    Ben Gibson

All authority begins and ends with God. His authority is supreme, and unchallenged. It is intrinsic to His nature. God’s power and control are absolute, without exception or limitation.

Also without exception, any authority possessed by any human institution has been delegated by Him. It is true in every sphere, or human institution. It applies, as we have learned, to civil governments. We will apply it to the home and to the church. As we will see this Sunday, it also applies to the work place. Everywhere there is an authority structure these principles apply.

How well or how poorly that power is used is another matter. In our text this week, the command remains the same. Be subject... We are told how to do that in the workplace while at the same time we are given certain instances when disobedience to that authority is not only necessary, but Christ-honoring.

Join us today as we study 1 Peter 2:18 - 25 and we make The Case for Civil Disobedience.
