We are told in Hebrews 8:5 that the ceremonial law and all of its trappings in the Old Testament is a shadow of heavenly things. Biblically, shadows are pictures, metaphors, living parables of heavenly reality. In that way, they also serve as promises of greater fulfillments yet to come.
