The Desire for Ecclesiastical Unity
This Sunday we are summing up our conversation about subjection to authority. At last we are focusing on the authority structure within the church. God has ordered this sphere too, and like those before it, it is a gift and a blessing, designed for the flourishing of human civilization and the good of all mankind.
Has it struggled? Yes. Has it failed to live up to its potential? In many ways. But the church of the Living God (1 Timothy 3:15) can still fulfill its glorious, divinely bestowed purpose.
Thus the desire for ecclesiastical unity is expressed in our text. We willingly place our brothers and sisters above ourselves as an expression of one heart and one mind in Christ Jesus. Or as Paul said in Philippians 1:27, this sphere is best ordered when we stand firm in one spirit, and with one mind we strive side by side for the faith of the gospel.
Join us today as we discuss The Desire for Ecclesiastical Unity from 1 Peter 3:8 - 12.
