Gospel Solidarity

When a believer - who has been justified by faith in Jesus Christ and who has also been given the Spirit as a pledge of God's promise of eternal life - sins, what happens? What happens when that sin begins to affect the body of believers? What should the church do? Who should step in?

These are touchy questions that evoke strong emotion, but they deserve an answer nonetheless. From our text this week we learn that one way we continue to walk in the Spirit is by showing solidarity with the one who stumbles, and by restoring anyone who has been overtaken by any transgression. It is an essential part of the Spirit-filled life, one in which we partner with the Spirit as He does His work of sanctification in our hearts.
