Love & Our Suffering
What, if anything, does love have to do with the trials and temptations you are facing? It is more than a warm blanket, I can assure you. Jesus acknowledged that when lawlessness increases, the love of many will grow cold. Therefore, He says, the one who endures to the end will be saved (Matthew 24:12 - 13).
Suffering triggers a reflex in all of us. When we see what we have seen over the last month, amplified over time, intensifying as it accumulates, we instinctually pull back. We see the evil, the pain and the suffering. We don't like it. We don’t want to experience any of it. So, we circle the wagons and turn our attention inward toward ourselves and toward our families.
There is a sense in which that is exactly the right thing to do. But left unchecked, or done in an uniformed manner, our hearts turn in on themselves. We stop loving as we have been called to do. Our text is a warning us about this overreaction, admonishing us to keep loving when we are hurting as part of our perseverance in the faith.
Join us today as we discuss Love & Our Suffering from 1 Peter 1:22 - 25.
