A Better Covenant - Part 4

If this had been a court case, and the writer of Hebrews had been tasked with making a defense for the superiority of Jesus Christ, and if, in that case, we were tasked with listening to this burden of proof, we would now be hearing the closing arguments. The body of evidence has been presented. Jesus is better. He is superior to everyone and everything which He has been compared.

We are treading on familiar ground in chapter 10, with one startling addition - sanctification. The dreadful reality under the old covenant is that it could never make perfect those who draw near. It was impossible for the law and all of its sacrifices to sanctify the worshiper. But under the new and better covenant, the sacrifice of Jesus sanctifies everyone who believes the gospel, once and for all.
