Hope in Suffering

Sep 14, 2025    Ben Gibson

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account," Jesus said. "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11–12).

Fitting words for the events of this week. When we are reviled, persecuted, spoken against on His account, we are blessed. We have reason to rejoice, to exult in God our Savior because His reward is great and we are in good company.

Fitting words are we come to our text in 1 Peter 1:3 - 9, because Jesus gives us a seed of hope in the middle of suffering for His sake. When we view suffering through the lens of salvation hope stirs.  The gospel is our ground for our hope in hardship.
